Big energy companies have a program called ECO that helps pay for energy-saving improvements in homes.  To see if you qualify for ECO and have these improvements installed, we will need some of your information. We will only use this information for the ECO program and keep it safe, following all the rules.

Information We Will Be Needing

Your name, address, and sometimes birthday:

This helps us see if you qualify for the ECO4 Grants program and contact you about the installation.

Proof of who you are (like a driver’s license):

This might be needed depending on the specific improvement.

Copies of benefit or income documents:

This proves you are eligible for the ECO4 Scheme, but we will only look at parts showing eligibility.

Phone number and email address:

We will use these to contact you about the program.

How much you paid for the improvement:

This helps the government plan future programs.

Giving Us Your Information:

  • We will let you know if some things are optional (like how much you paid).

  • You will need to give us most of your information, otherwise, we will be unable to install the energy-saving improvements in your home.

Why We Use Your Information:
We can only use your information for specific reasons:

  • To complete our agreement with you, like installing the improvements.
  • To check you qualify for the program and share your info with those running the program.
  • To follow the law, like when you ask us about your information.

In very rare cases, we might need extra personal information to prove you qualify.

Who We Share Your Information With
To make sure you are eligible for the free boiler grant program or any other grant, we may share some of your information with the government department that gives benefits (DWP). They will check your details through a trusted company called the Energy Saving Trust to give us a simple “yes” or “no” answer on your eligibility.

The government department in charge of energy has a few reasons they might use your information:

They have to follow certain laws, and your information helps them do that.

  • In some cases, they might need to check with the company installing the energy-saving improvements in your home.
  • They might hire auditors to make sure everything is running smoothly with the program, and those auditors might need some of your information.
  • Very rarely, they might share some of your information with a very important government official (Secretary of State) for research purposes to improve the program in the future.

The energy company paying for the improvements will also receive some of your information. They can only use it as required by law and according to their own privacy policy, which you can find on their website.

How Long We Keep Your Information:
For Improvements with a 25-Year Warranty
We might keep your information for up to 25 years, similar to the warranty length.

For Other Improvements
We might keep your information for up to seven years after the program ends. This follows the guidelines set by a government department that deals with taxes (HM Revenue & Customs).

Important to Know
A different government department might keep some anonymous information (like your address, but not your name) for up to 25 years for research purposes. This helps them improve programs in the future.

Parties Involved in the Program:

The installer
This is the company that puts in the energy-saving improvements in your home.

The installer’s checker
This company makes sure the improvements are installed correctly.

Other checkers
There might be other companies checking the improvements to make sure everything is done right.

The funding company
This company helps manage the money for the program.

Auditors
These are like inspectors who make sure all the information about the program is accurate.

Building inspectors
These government officials check to make sure the improvements follow safety regulations.

Warranty companies
If you get certain improvements, like wall insulation, these companies might offer a warranty (like a guarantee).

Property owner/manager
This could be you, your landlord, or a housing authority, depending on your situation.

Software companies
These companies help process all the information in the program.

Sharing your information outside Europe
In very rare cases, we might need to share some of your information with companies outside of Europe. But this will only happen if the program runs smoothly. We will always make sure your information is protected according to strict rules before it’s ever shared.
